There are 4 types of mesothelioma, each of them affecting a different area of the body:-
1. Pleural Mesothelioma – This is located in the lining of the lungs and is the most common form of mesothelioma due to the inhalation of asbestos fibres which then become lodged in the lungs.
2. Peritoneal Mesothelioma – This is located in the abdomen and is quite rare and most likely to be caused by swallowing asbestos fibres.
3. Pericardial Mesothelioma – This is where the cancer is located around the exterior lining of the heart. There have been less than 200 reported cases.
4. Testicular Mesothelioma – This is an extremely rare form of the disease and affects the tunica vaginalis in the testicles. There have been less than 100 reported cases.
