“we are delighted with what you have negotiated and agreed to day; thank you. We are aware of the difficulties surrounding this case and again thank you for your advice during this time.”
Mrs P instructed WE Solicitors having recently been diagnosed with mesothelioma. WE Solicitors visited her at home within a few days. Unfortunately Mrs P was unable to recall how and when she had come into contact with asbestos.
WE solicitors studied her employment history very carefully. There was nothing in her employment that was obvious with regards any exposure to asbestos.
WE set about investigating all possibilities and managed to track down a considerable number of witnesses who all pointed to a clothing factory Mrs P worked at in the 1970s. A picture started to emerge of how steam pipes crossed the factory roof that were all lagged with asbestos and were in a very poor state of repair.
It then became clear of how and when Mrs P had been exposed to asbestos.
It also quickly became apparent that the employer we were looking at had gone out of business. WE then set about tracing their insurers and managed to do so within a short period of time.
John Green from WE Solicitors secured an award of £208,000 in July 2009. He commented:
“this was a particularly difficult case as we had nothing to go on at the start. After carrying out very thorough investigations we were able to uncover where and how Mrs P was exposed to asbestos which was crucial in securing her compensation”
