The family of Andy Witney have voiced concerns over his treatment at Churchill Hospital in Oxford.  Andy died in August 2010 after a 5 year battle with asbestos related cancer.

He was part of a trial of new drugs treatment that caused severe side effects.  He lost the use of his lower legs and suffered severe incontinence.  Within 12 days of beginning the treatment he had died.  His widow, Karen Whitney stated his death had been ‘an unimaginable nightmare’ and the nursing care he received was substandard due to staff shortages.  The Coroner investigating his death, Nicholas Gardiner said that although mesothelioma was the cause of death the new drugs given to him might have brought it forward.
