It is hoped that the UK version of the European Union-Wide law on asbestos safety is to be amended after the EC ruled it illegal and that the UK had under-implemented the European asbestos law.

Criticism has come from many quarters including the unions stating that the UK had fallen perilously short of the legal requirements under the 2003 EC Directive “On the Protection of Workers from the Risk of Asbestos”.

This is a well-advised move by the UK as it will safeguard the health of future generations of workers.  This will not by any means get rid of the ’cowboys’ in who have a total disregard for the safety of their workers, and in some cases their own safety, but it is step in the right direction.
