Work and Pensions Minister, Lord Freud, has confirmed the Government’s intention to introduce primary legislation for proposed new mesothelioma funding as soon as possible.

In correspondence with APIL, Lord Freud said the Government appreciates the urgency of providing financial support for mesothelioma sufferers who cannot trace their former employers’ liability insurers, but he pointed out that the passage of legislation will depend on the parliamentary timetable.

He also said new proposals to amplify the reach and remit of the Employers Liability Tracing Office (ELTO) should help to improve the tracing success rate.
