It was recently reported in Hazards Magazine that following Union pressure the Government is publishing online asbestos guidance for schools chiefs. The Joint Union Asbestos Committee said the new guide from the Department of Education was a step in the right direction.
It is widely known and accepted that asbestos was prevalent in many schools, colleges and universities. It was reported by the JUAC that asbestos in schools has led to the deaths of 140 teachers from mesothelioma in the last 10 years. We are also starting to see former students and pupils contracting the disease.
