WE Solicitors have assisted Mrs S in receiving compensation following the death of her Husband at the early age of 49.  He sadly passed away having contracted peritoneal mesothelioma, which is a disease caused by exposure to asbestos.

Mrs S contacted us when her husband was seriously ill.  Sadly we were unable to obtain a witness statement from him before he passed away.  After meticulous investigation we determined that he had been exposed whilst working as an apprentice engineer in the 1970’s at Fordath Ltd which was a foundry based in the West Midlands.

He had left the West Midlands some forty years before he was diagnosed and we had no witness evidence to confirm his exposure.  Following an appeal in the local paper a number of former workmates and fellow apprentices came forward giving details of how he worked and how he came to be exposed to asbestos.  This evidence became crucial to the case and we were taken aback by the generosity of the public in coming forward and giving us with their time to assist the family.

The company had long since dissolved but we discovered the company’s insurance history and we were able to obtain significant damages on behalf Mrs S and her two young sons.

Steven Evans commented, “It is unusual for such a young man to contract mesothelioma.  Peritoneal mesothelioma is extremely rare and normally sufferers tend to be much older in view of the time the illness takes to present itself.  For Mr S to pass away leaving his young family, boys aged 9 and 11, is tragic.  I am extremely proud to have met and been able to assist such a strong and determined family over the course of this action.  They have fought over the last few years for the justice they deserve and whilst no amount of money can compensate them for the loss of their husband and father we have assisted in providing them with some financial security for the future”.
