WE Solicitors have recovered tens of thousands for a mesothelioma sufferer who worked at Brightside Heating & Engineering Ltd who are now owned by Carrilion, a major building contractor in the UK.
Our client sadly passed away with mesothelioma, an incurable cancer caused through the inhalation of asbestos fibres. Our client had worked with Brightside Heating & Engineering Ltd as an apprentice plumber and heating engineer from 1960 to 1968.
He recalled working with asbestos when he had to take off asbestos lagging and reapply it to pipework when he was called out to do maintenance work. He recalled working at many places including:
- Battersea Power Station
- Bomber Command, London
- The Royal Woolwich, Arsenal
- Wandsworth Gas Works
- BP House
Many of the heating systems within these buildings were in a poor state of repair and asbestos was present everywhere.
Our client was confined to a wheelchair as he suffered with Parkinsons disease and despite suferimhwith dementia had a great recollection of his working past which was confirmed by witnesses we were able to contact.
Although our client passed away shortly after we met him he was still entitled to tens of thousands of pounds of compensation and benefits.
Steven Evans the Partner in charge of the specialist asbestos illness team said, “All too often the elderly are overlooked or marginalised when it comes to compensation. Simply because they are old or infirm doesn’t mean they suffer any less from this terrible condition. On this occasion we were able to secure compensation for our client’s family although no amount of money can lessen the pain and suffering that mesoethlioma victims have to endure.”
